With blush still having its moment to shine, I’ve been taking full advantage. From liquid to cream to powder, there isn’t a texture I don’t like, and when I learned about the newly released Tower 28 GetSet Matte Powder Blushes, I wanted to know if they stood out from the pack. As a fan of the brand’s cream blush, I was excited to see if I would love this powder launch, which promises rich pigment, a 12-hour wear time, and setting benefits, just the same. Read on for my full review of this matte blush, from my thoughts on the staying power to the shades.
About My Skin: Combination, sensitive, and prone to breakouts
I have always had sensitive skin, which has made it challenging to try new products and incorporate certain categories into my beauty routine. For years, I only used powder blushes. After going through so many challenges with my skin, I preferred to continue using products I was familiar with. I didn’t want any product to irritate my skin or cause breakouts.
Over the past couple of years, my skin has transformed: my breakouts are less frequent, and I have gained a better understanding of the types of ingredients I should avoid. Today, I feel much more comfortable trying out different products, especially blushes. Right now. I love the Merit Beauty Flush Balm in Aprés, a statement soft berry shade that I often make the focal point of my makeup. Testing out the Tower 28 blushes, I was excited to see how this innovative matte powder formula compares to my typical penchant for dewy, flushed cheeks.

How to Apply: Use a fluffy brush
Since the GetSet blush is a matte powder formula, the application is quite straightforward. Tower 28 recommends sweeping the product on with a fluffy brush, building until you reach your preferred level of pigment.

The Wear Time: Truly lasts all day
Each day I wore makeup, I incorporated one of the Tower 28 GetSet blush shades into my routine. During my first wear test, I applied it over a thin layer of foundation. The Long Island Iced Tea shade buffed seamlessly into my skin and had a solid amount of pigment from the first application. I worked a full day without feeling the need to touch up my blush or add more product.
During my second wear test, I chose not to use any primer or foundation. I knew that there was a higher chance the blush might not last as long or could look patchy—the natural oils in our skin can break down the product—but I wanted to know if there was a noticeable difference between using primer and foundation and going without. By the end of my workday, the Malibu Cooler shade had lost some of its pigmentation, as expected. I thought my application would look patchy at the end of the day, but thankfully, my cheeks looked evenly saturated.
The Shades: Well-pigmented rosy hues and neutrals
I tried the GetSet blushes in a few different shades to see how they would look on my complexion. Opting for the Long Beach Iced Tea (an earthy pink), Culver Crush (a pink peach), and Malibu Cooler (a cool pink) shades, I intentionally chose colors that were different to get a true sense of the products’ pigment and overall wearability. Each color accentuated my complexion and paired well with the other products in my makeup routine.

The Final Verdict: An impressive debut in the matte blush category
I was surprised to see how buttery-smooth my cheeks looked after each application of the Tower 28 GetSet blush, even without any talc, an ingredient well-known for giving makeup a smoother, silkier feel. I have some post-acne textural irregularities and enlarged pores on the apples of my cheeks, and I liked that the blush didn’t exacerbate any of it. Instead, it gave my skin a blurred, smooth effect and remained intact after several hours of wear.

My cheekbones don’t typically get oily, but I tend to get very shiny on the apples of my cheeks. Throughout the day, I was happy to see that the blush remained matte and didn’t fade or look patchy. Though the GetSet blush promises to be sweat-proof, it didn’t fully hold up against my intense leg day workout—some of my blush faded, but I don’t view that as a problem. Personally, I don’t expect my makeup to last when exercising, but I wanted to mention this caveat for anyone reading who expects their blush to stay put.
Overall, I’m very impressed by Tower 28’s GetSet powder blushes. Some days, my blush was an accent, while on other days, it was the focal point of my look. Whether I applied the product subtly or created a fuller-coverage statement, the formula is beautifully pigmented and creates a soft, velvety, matte finish that I couldn’t get enough of.
